GTA V on Laptop Issues - Intel + AMD
Hi all. Seems there has been a big issue with users with laptops with Intel + AMD switchable graphics cards. There is a temporary fix for the Nvidia cards where you disable the Nvidia cards in the device manager and reenable after launching game.
This doesn't work for the AMD cards. Are there any fixes we can try?
AMD R9 M270X 2GB DDR5 + Intel HD 4000
NOTE: If you disable the AMD card in device manager, the game will launch and enter the game on the Intel HD 4000. Re-enabling the AMD card will error out the game or if you don't disable AMD card it will not launch.

Is it similar to your ones?
Same issue here as well, Running a 8970M + Intel CPU. I submitted a ticket to rockstar about this but sadly I was literally just redirected to this link:
Has nothing to do with the fact that GTA 5 will just not run on an AMD + intel combo, it has an issue with switchable graphics. I really hope Rockstar fixes this issue, have not played at all because of this.
I've just submitted a ticket to Rockstar too. See what other solutions they can come up with. It also seems like most people experiencing this problem are laptop users and not desktop users too. Only in time can someone find a solution for AMD.
What graphics drivers are you using? I'm currently using 14.4 as I'm on Windows 8 and 15.4 beta requires Windows 8.1. Have heard 15.4 beta breaks people's systems too.
I was on Beta 15.4 beta drivers, had a couple of BSOD due to SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (NETIO.SYS) and ended up rolling back to 14.12 Omega drivers and still no luck with playing GTA 5. I have heard some desktop users unable to play, but many of them had success finding fixes to their problems.
Wow that truly sucks. Even with the latest beta drivers, there's still problems so that at least confirms it's not an issue with the driver but something is happening with switchable graphics.
Should have mentioned I am on the non steam version - retail copy with the 7 DVDs install. Had to download additional 5GB + 353mb after installing the 7 discs.
It really does work on the Intel card. Just not sure why it won't play on the AMD card at all.
Same problem here.
I fixed it (at least until AMD/INTEL do something better) by installing Leshcat’s Catalyst 13.4 WHQL drivers. They are a little bit hold but GTA 5 works perfect. This Catalyst version lets you select one of the GPUs only. So just select AMD and you are good to go :D
It can be downloaded here:
yeah all of my friends with this laptop are having this problem and I am too lol... it works with my intel card and then errors when I try to switch back to my 6770m card. literally tried every solution everyone else has asked so I'm pretty sure this is a problem on rockstar's part.
WOW Gilcardoso just what we AMD + Intel users needed! How did you ever hear of Leshcat's Catalyst? This is my first laptop ever with an AMD GPU since its a university laptop and I went with AMD since it gave me better computing power. Rockstar please hire gilcardoso for providing a valid solution to this issue.
Thanks for discovery on the Leshcat's Catalyst drivers. Was wondering why this version (13.4 WHQL) vs something newer like the 14.4 WHQL?
I've noticed that if I switch GTAV.exe from High Performance to Energy Saving the game opens, using NY HD 4000 integrated, and then crashes. That's the first time I'm able to open the game (disabling my video card got me a Direct 9 error on GTA Launcher). No known fixes have worked so far and I ran out of ideas. 13.4 Leshcat didn't work too.
