[Updated 8/9/13] "Application load error 5:0000065434" when starting GTA Trilogy (Steam)

Question: Whenever I try to launch the Steam version of GTA III, Vice City, or San Andreas, an error appears that says: "Application load error 5:0000065434."  Help!

Answer: We have received a few reports about this error and are currently investigating.  If you would like to receive an automatic email notification as soon as there is more information, please log into the Support Site and click Subcribe at the top of this page.

Update for 8/9/13: We released a patch for this issue but have received a few additional reports after the update.  We are looking into this now.

    Update for 7/12/13: Steam has deployed a fix for this issue in their public Steam client beta.  To opt into this beta, go to the Account tab on your Steam Settings and choose "Steam Beta Update" in the Beta participation drop-down.  We will provide another update when the fix is live for all Steam users.

    Update for 7/15/13: We have received some additional reports about the Application Load Error even after opting into the Steam beta, and we are looking into this now.  As soon as there is more information, we will update this article again.
