Dear Brian, is there anything to communicate about unwanted money?

Numerous cases have been reported, in which players have received ridiculous amounts of money they didn't ask for, from bored individuals exploiting altered game modifiers.
It seems that so far none of the players who wants to get rid of these unwanted gifts has gotten a response to their support tickets, at least no one knows anything for certain.

I understand that we need to wait for the next patch for the issue to be fixed, but could you please try to get some basic information about how to deal with the problem for now?

Who to contact? Personally I submitted a request - would it have been wiser to send an email to GTAonlinebanhammer@rockstargames.com instead?

I have seen RSC profiles from cheaters, in which stats like Cash and Shared Money have been reset, yet it has been stated, that the Shared Money stat can not, or will not be fixed for honest players who go through the proper channels.
Can you please find out what's actually happens?

Are we supposed to store the fake money on our Maze Bank accounts, or does that interfere with the removal in any way?

Even though I didn't spend 1$ of the fake money, it already affects my playstyle.
I don't engage in lengthy free roam shoot outs, or put bounties on someone, because if anyone looks at my RSC profile, it is very likely, that I get falsely reported as a cheater.
I don't steal and sell cars, go after bounties, or jobs like I used to, because I don't know if the legit money I earn has to be removed as well - and because I don't want to end up with another billion on my account.

I'd be happy with any response from R*, or someone who had the same problem and got fixed.

Best regards.

Submitting a request or using the banhammer email are both acceptable. The wait time may be a few days as lots of requests are coming in for various questions, feedback, and issues. We are working hard on reducing wait time for tickets.

If you do not yet have a second character, you can create one and withdraw all the money into cash to keep it separate for now. I apologize for the inconvenience, and please stand by for corrections to your account and a permanent fix coming soon.

That was quick, many thanks Brian.

It is good to know, that the workaround already suggested by fellow players on this forum is considered legit by R*.

Sadly this does not work for me though, as I already have a second lvl120+ character.

Hope that they will fix all really soon, too because now i'm too scared to play online and be banned or things like that.

Brian,

someone (forgive me I can't remember who, or find the post) came up with a good idea re: unwanted funds. The suggestion was to have some fictitious charity that players could donate their unwanted $ to, maybe through a in-game website? seemed like a sound idea!

Totally agree, this is a really good idea!

Same thing happened to me last night, $83 million placed in my account...Totally kills the gaming experience, like the others its affected im scared to "play" the game properly in fear of being labellled cheater, played the game as it was meant to be played.....dont want or need this money....No matter how much R* work hard to stop one issue, someone(s) always working on another exploit.....imagine a team of guys battling a world of people who ultimately want to cause discomfort....In my mind thats what its like. I love the idea of being able to offload the unwanted cash into a fake charity, keeps a record of where it went.....UNTIL there is a solid fix in place....

Ah! yes that's the one, thank you, I was in a rush and wasn't able to find it.

While some automated system would be favourable (if it worked & couldn't be exploited) I think some kind of option for players to remove their unwanted $ would be useful to both players & R? We are seeing more and more players experiencing this issue and I guess in some vain attempt to confuse the system and spoil others gaming fun (people are genuinely worried about what R will do to them) those responsible will continue.

Of course if R* can think of a better way GREAT but until then the charity idea could provide some solution if only temporary.

Also being the miserable old cynical sod I am I can't help wondering how many people asked for the money and are panicking now they can see R* were serious about the

What if you and ur friends already removed the money yourself? I bought the adder 200 times and had my gf do the same with hers. But our stats are still say we used to have that much.

I use both my character slots. Do I just temporarily retire one of them to serve as a "bagholder"? Will the character be deleted with the glitched money?

As Brian said you just do that "to keep it separate for now."

That way you won't spend any of the money accidently, and you won't need a calculator everytime you want to know, how much you really own.

I'm fairly certain R* is able to verify claims like this. Just don't forget to add the regarding info to your support ticket.

Yeah I'm on the character creation menu right now. I don't want to get banned just because a random hacker decided to give me money.

So as long as i keep the money that was given me as cash and don't deposit it, i won't get banned?

Reading about all these issues, I'm kinda afraid to go online now, since I don't wanna end up with millions of unwanted GTA$ and maybe even labeled a cheater. In my opinion an easy solution to prevent further cases like this would be to implement a feature in the game, that makes it necessary for the recipient to accept or decline an attempted money transfer from another player.

I sure hope not. I haven't had a response to my request from rockstar in 6 days and I just desposited the money i had because i was worried i might drop alot of money if i died. It's impossible to know what money is legit and not. It's not unlikely that I've overspent. I just hope the real people gets punished and that the economy will be fixed one day.

I really do not want to make a new character if that means Im going to lose my primary character. Too much time has been put into the character. I just want the money that is NOT in my bank to just be removed so I can play normally...

You have a second character slot available in which you can create a new character without it affecting your main character. After you have done that follow the following steps:

  1. Bank all the received cash
  2. Create second character (through online menu switch character)
  3. Play through tutorial
  4. Go into passive mode on second character and stand on ledge
  5. Open Maze Bank Website on phone
  6. Withdraw all the money (this takes some times as you can only do it in steps of 1 mil)
  7. Submit support request with Rockstar asking for the deletion of funds (this takes time, 6 days waiting no action here as of yet).

Your characters share the same bank account but not the money they have in hand, transfering the money into your hands will remove it from your first character. Just let it sit there for Rockstar to remove.

I will do this too.
I was given 1,000,000,000 of money I do not want.
I sent a ticket yo R* so hopefully i can get this fixed.
I've ranked up to 239 since the game came out and I don't want to have to start all over again.

@BrianB If you do not yet have a second character, you can create one and withdraw all the money into cash to keep it separate for now.

That's not feasible considering these cheaters are giving away hundreds of millions of GTA$ and I've heard sometimes it's even Billions. The bank only allows you to withdraw 1M at a time, and it's not like you can click once and have it withdraw, but each withdrawal needs confirmation and it can take around 5 seconds between each withdrawal, and that's if you're quick. Withdrawing all the fake money could take hours depending on how much you recieved. Nobody has time or patience for that, we just want to play the game! :(

I've tried to spend as little money as possible after I recieved the fake cash but it's very hard to know how much money you Actually have (legitimately) since I had some money before I got the fake, and even after that I've kept playing and earned lots more. I know I have nowhere near the cheated 350+ million GTA$ I've recieved but on a lower level it's incredibly hard to keep track of what money is actually legit.

How safe are we? I mean we here actually reporting the cheaters are in the minority. I'm sure loads of other players have gotten money that they don't want but then don't know about these support forums.

I've played alot and worked hard to get to where I am now (level) 80 with a full garage and it wouldn't be fair to lose it all even if I (all of us who recieved money) accidentaly spend more money than we legitimately earned.

This is just a mess. It drives me insane that those people have to ruin the experience for everybody!

Very creative guys, keep it up !!! XD
Can I add one also?

  • When playing with crewmembers/friends in free mode If someone puts a 200mill bounty on you, ask your friend to shoot you and give 100% back (return 2 sender) to the guy putting that insane bounty on you LOL

What u guys think? It's actually a thing we (all) can do right now.... Only works when the guy handing out money is still in the lobby i believe :(

This happened to me Friday night and still waiting for a response to my support request, but I already deposited the money into my bank cause I was worried about getting killed and having another player pick up a percentage of the hacked money and be considered as giving hacked money away. If I make another character to hold onto the 57.9 million I was 'gifted', can I use the ATM to pull $10 million at a time or does it have to be through the phone?

I just received some unwanted cash as well. About 49 million or something like that. Didn't notice until I did some jobs..

I don't want this either.. Mostly because I was having fun earning the cash the old fashioned way. I thought maybe I could just spend it away, but, hell, that would take forever. I don't really want to put this burden of unwanted money on another player, so, I guess I will waste time transferring to another character that I don't want to create in the first place.. Rockstar should make a fire pit available for online use where we could just burn the money.

They should allow the Epsilon website to be active for players so that they can donate all their unwanted cash

I got modded and now I have 695,987,925$. And because of this I now find the game really boring I had 810,000$ all legitimate money and now I have loads of modded money :(

Same here. Me and my Girlfriend are playing since 2 Days, and this night some Cheater/Modders had given us a huge load of money, we dont want to get. The Idea with the Website is genius! I hope the Support of R* finds a way to fix this in a near future. Ticket is already send.

I received $8.75 billion because I'm stuck in the cheater lobby, running to a new lobby every time you see a huge bounty doesn't help at all, all it does is make you run into another modder, if not the same one. transferring 8.75 billion from one character to another isn't easy. first I started buying, upgrading and selling adders to get rid of the $$ well that just made my stats look more bull----- that anything (LOLFAIL), The only option I have now is basically spending the next 24 days in Cheater Prison hoping the money gets removed, not to mention i can't even do jobs because if I earn money it just gets mixed up with the rest, causing me to have no choice but to say "Well I'm screwed." I did learn one lesson though, think before you try to get rid of a crazy amount of money, because if you don't, you may end up having a ridiculous spending/selling total.

So, I can create an "unwanted $$$/delete me" character to get out of this? I just got gifted either $100mil or $1 billion less than a few hours ago after being followed and killed several times and I want to be sure that that is what I should do. I haven't played much online, as I'm replaying the story again (once for story, second time to invest assassination money for billions, third time now to just take it slow and do the side missions I skipped over all those times). So, I think I'm stuck at level 8, but I had an apartment and a few cars from the stimulus days.
I didn't have much money, at like $59k, but I was going along at my own pace... So, I can use a second shell character to funnel the gifted money and get rid of the burden?

HEY! this answer didn't go around to well, so what only people in this post knows about this, because I have been looking for a solution for some time AND made a ticket when the answer was right here, AND its too late now. Not cool.

@sheepcowNdesire creating a 2nd character to dump the money on, seems to be an acceptable solution, however, I have not seen any official confirmation from R. I personally would just go for it and notify R what you have done. At least you will be bale to get back to the game and not worry about your main character holding excess cash.
