How to Perform Clean Install of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC

Answer: The Steps below outline how to perform a clean installation on PC:

  1. Backup any save games from Story Mode

  2. Uninstall the game from the launcher

  3. Delete all temporary files from the Social Club folder

  4. Restart the PC

  5. Reinstall the game using an account with Administrator permissions

Steps:

  1. Backup Save Game files 

    • Default C:\Users\<user.name>\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2 

  2. Uninstall the game

  • Rockstar Games Launcher

    • Run the Rockstar Games Launcher as Administrator

    • Click on Settings

    • Under My Installed Games, Select Red Dead Redemption 2

    • Scroll down and select on Uninstall 

  • Steam Launcher:

    • Load Steam

    • Right-click on Red Dead Redemption 2

    • Select Uninstall > Delete

    • Once complete, navigate to the Steam installation folder and delete all files under Red Dead Redemption 2

    • (Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption 2\ ) 

  • Epic Games Launcher:

    • Open the Epic Games Launcher

    • Select the Library tab on the left panel

    • Select the cog icon on the Red Dead Redemption 2 title

    • Select Uninstall

  1. Delete all temporary files from their Social Club folder 

    • (Default C:\Users\<user.name>\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social ClubNote: This will cause Social Club to prompt you for your credentials after restarting

  2. Restart the PC

  3. Reinstall Red Dead Redemption 2 using an account with Administrator privileges
