Inability to progress in GTAV story after completing Flight School early

Question: I was excited about flying in GTAV so I completed flight school very early on in the game, before I even got the phone call from Trevor about improving flight skills.  Now it seems like I can't progress past a certain point in the story.  Is this a bug?

Answer: There are a number of reasons why this can occur.

• One of the more common missions missed is the third FIB one, By the Book. In order to do that mission, you must receive a text while playing as Trevor or Michael. There is also a 6-minute delay between finishing the second FIB mission and getting access to the next part. This is also mentioned here: http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/articles/200195217

• If you remain in the apartment following the port setup mission, the text doesn't get sent due to Floyd and wade being in the apartment. You need to leave the apartment to receive the text.  

• If you are playing as Michael and Franklin all the time, you may not receive the text from Wade and Floyd about the preps as Trevor.
