How the NY Minute timer is affected by checkpoint failure in Max Payne 3

Question: If I fail a checkpoint in Max Payne 3 NY Minute mode, do I lose the time I spent getting to that point?

Answer: Yes.  If you fail a checkpoint, the length of the failed run is added to the playthrough timer along with the time it takes me to get through the checkpoint successfully.
