Last Updated: July 18, 2024

Question: Whenever I try to play GTA Online on PC I keep receiving one of these errors:

  • Rockstar Games Online Services are unavailable right now. Please return to Grand Theft Auto V.

  • Rockstar Games Online Services are unavailable right now. Please try again later.

How do I connect to GTA Online?

Answer: These errors can be caused either by an outage within the Rockstar Games servers, or by issues with your network connection. The steps below may remedy the issue:

Check your network connection and Rockstar Games Service availability

Check your firewall and router for NAT Type restrictions

If you have a firewall or other network hardware, such as a router, you may need to access them to change your NAT type. Your NAT type can be inadvertently changed by opening or forwarding other network ports.

Check your open network ports

GTA Online requires the following ports to be open:

  • Port 6672 (UDP)

  • Port 61455 (UDP)

  • Port 61457 (UDP)

  • Port 61456 (UDP)

  • Port 61458 (UDP)

Change your Domain Name Servers (DNS)

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Network and Internet

  3. Under Advanced network settings, click on Change adapter options

  4. Right-click on your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, depending on which you are currently using, then select Properties

  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and make sure the box is checked

  6. Click Properties

  7. Select Use the following DNS server

  8. Enter the following DNS addresses in their respective text box:

    • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

    • Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

  9. Select Validate settings upon exit

  10. Click OK

  11. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and make sure the box is checked

  12. Click Properties

  13. Enter the following DNS addresses in their respective text box:

    • Preferred DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8888

    • Alternate DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8844

  14. Select Validate settings upon exit

  15. Click OK

Reset your network router

You can reset your router by unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for about 10 minutes. Restart the game client and check to see if your issue is resolved.

Try using a different network connection

Test your connection to the game via another internet connection, such as a mobile hotspot. If you are able to play, there may be an issue with your internet service provider or router.
