Rockstar Games Error Code 7002.1

Question: What should I do if I receive error 7002.1 with one of the following messages?

  • Game Launch Error. Please try again later. Code 7002.1

  • The Rockstar Games Services are unavailable and offline play could not be verified (code 132). Please check your connection and try again later. Offline play is only available if the game has been launched recently while online on this computer. Code 7002.1

  • Unable to launch Grand Theft Auto V. If you continue to have problems launching the game, please verify the integrity of your game files via the settings menu. Code 7002.1

Answer: This error occurs for a variety of reasons, including connectivity issues or use of third-party mods. One or more of the following solutions may help to resolve your issue:

Uninstall third-party mods

  1. Uninstall all third-party mods and delete any folders associated with those mods

  2. Perform a clean reinstall of the game

Perform a clean reinstall of the Rockstar Games Launcher

Uninstall the Rockstar Games Launcher

  1. Close any Rockstar Games titles that are running

  2. Navigate to the Rockstar Games Launcher installation folder

    • Default: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher

  3. Double-click the uninstall.exe program and uninstall the Rockstar Games Launcher

  4. Leave uninstall the game data unchecked

Remove any remaining Rockstar Games Launcher files

  1. Once the uninstaller has completed, delete all of the following folders:Note: Do not delete any other folders or files as you may lose game data.

    • C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club

    • C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher

    • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher

    • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club

  2. Restart your computer

Reinstall the Rockstar Games Launcher

  1. Download the Rockstar Games Launcher from the Rockstar Games website:

  2. Double-click the Rockstar Games Launcher icon to begin installing

  3. Select your preferred language and click CONTINUE

  4. Click CONTINUE at the Welcome screen

  5. Check I accept the terms of the License Agreement box and click CONTINUE

  6. Choose an install location and click CONTINUE

  7. When installation is complete, click CLOSE

When you first start the Rockstar Games Launcher, you’ll be asked if you want to scan for previously installed Rockstar Games titles on your computer.

Run the Rockstar Games Launcher in Administrator mode

  • Right-click the Rockstar Games Launcher and select Run as administrator

Check your network connection and Rockstar Games Service availability

Reset your Winsock and IP address

If the above troubleshooting did not fix your issue, you can try resetting the Winsock and IP address of your computer.

  1. Go to the search box on the taskbar

  2. Enter in Command prompt

  3. Right-click Command prompt

  4. Click Run as administrator

  5. Click Yes

  6. Enter in the following commands in the order listed below:

    • netsh winsock reset

    • netsh int ip reset

    • ipconfig /release

    • ipconfig /renew

    • ipconfig /flushdns

  7. Restart your PC

  8. Check to see if the issue is resolved

Change your Domain Name Servers (DNS)

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Network and Internet

  3. Under Advanced network settings, click on Change adapter options

  4. Right-click on your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, depending on which you are currently using, then select Properties

  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and make sure the box is checked

  6. Click Properties

  7. Select Use the following DNS server

  8. Enter the following DNS addresses in their respective text box:

    • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

    • Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

  9. Select Validate settings upon exit

  10. Click OK

  11. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and make sure the box is checked

  12. Click Properties

  13. Enter the following DNS addresses in their respective text box:

    • Preferred DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8888

    • Alternate DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8844

  14. Select Validate settings upon exit

  15. Click OK

Temporarily disable Windows Security

If you are still having an issue, temporarily disable Windows Security protection using the following steps:

For Windows 10:

  1. Select Start

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Update & Security

  4. Select Virus & threat protection

  5. Select Manage settings

  6. Switch Real-time protection to Off

For Windows 11:

  1. Select Start

  2. Type "Windows Security"

  3. Select Windows Security app from the search results

  4. Select Virus & threat protection

  5. Select Manage settings

  6. Switch Real-time protection to Off

Restart the Rockstar Games Launcher to allow any pending updates to apply, then turn your Windows Security protection back on.
