Setting Up Internet Multiplayer / Network / LAN in Midnight Club 2
Last Updated: April 17, 2024
Midnight Club 2 allows you to race against other players over the internet, or your friends over a LAN (local area network). Here is how to set it up.
Note on race availability: If you are hosting a game, you will be able to host only those specific races that you have unlocked. Unlocking a city will not allow you to host every race from that city. When you are a client, however, you will be able to join into any race if you have unlocked the city of that race.
**Setting up the network**In the main menu, if you scroll to "Networking Mode" you will be presented with three options:Start Default Network Configuration If you only have one network configuration on your Memory Card (PS2) this option will launch the networking mode using these settings.
**Select Network Configuration**If you have more than one network configuration on your Memory Card (PS2) this option will let you select which one Midnight Club 2 should use by default. After selecting a setting, return to Start Default Network Configuration to launch the networking mode.Run Network Configurator If you need to create a new network configuration, or edit an old one, you can do so here.
Once you press the X button on the Start Default Network Configuration screen, you will be entered into the network gaming options menu. From this menu you can select to host/join a LAN game, or you can host/join an internet game.
**Network: Internet menu**After reaching the Internet menu you first have to login to the Midnight Club 2 network. Do this by selecting Login from the Internet menu.
Before hosting or joining an internet game you must first select your nickname. This will be the name you'll be known by when racing around the Midnight Club 2 world, and will be the name given to any games you host. On the virtual keyboard type in your name, then select Accept. From the Internet menu you will be given 4 main options:
**Join Game**This option will show you a list of Midnight Club 2 games that you can currently join on the internet.
The Game Filters option will let you filter these games using several options such as city, weather and time of day. Note that the vehicle you select also effects the games you will be shown: if your vehicle makes you ineligible for a game you will not be shown it. You can only join games where the race hasn't started yet.
**Join Specific Game**This option searches the internet for Midnight Club 2 games that have the same name as you specify. Use this option to quickly find a friend's game if you know what his nickname is.
**Host Game**This option lets you host a Midnight Club 2 game that other players across the internet can join. From this menu you can change options such as the number of players, the city you wish to race in and the event type. Selecting custom settings allows you to specify other options such as whether power-ups will be enabled, which cars are allowed in the race and what time of the day the race will take place at.
**Logout**This option logs you out of the Midnight Club 2 network.
Network: LANIn the LAN menu you are able to host or join a game locally. The options for these menus are identical to their counterparts in the internet menu.
