Lost or Ruined Legendary Animal Pelts in Red Dead Redemption 2

Last Updated: May 1, 2024

Problem: What can I do if a Legendary Animal pelt is lost or ruined because I was unable to skin the animal, lost the pelt, or the animal died while I was in the area?

Answer: This can happen if the Legendary Animal has fallen into the water, the pelt is too damaged to be skinned, the pelt is lost, or the animal died while the player was in the area.

While you will not be able to sell the pelt for in-game cash when it is lost or unable to be skinned from the animal, the defeat of Legendary Animals is recorded by the Trapper and any materials from Legendary Animals needed to craft in-game items or resources will be available at the Trapper.

Players can access the materials at the Trapper in one of the two following ways:

Allowing in-game time pass:

  1. Leave the Legendary Animal area

  2. Sleep or allow two in-game days to pass

  3. Speak to the Trapper

Trigger a shopkeeper update:

  1. Leave the Legendary Animal area

  2. Perform a manual save

  3. Reboot your console

  4. Reload your game

  5. Speak to the Trapper
