Only Windows 10 and later are supported error troubleshooting

Question: How can I troubleshoot the following error message? 

  • Only Windows 10 and later are supported. Please verify your OS version and check your Windows compatibility settings by right clicking the game icon and going to Properties > Compatibility 

Answer: If your PC is running Windows 10 or later and you are getting the error above, the most likely cause is that the launcher you are using, or the game you are trying to launch, is set to be compatible with earlier operating systems. 

Checking the compatibility settings of the launcher you are using 

Rockstar Games Launcher 

  1. Close the Rockstar Games Launcher 

  2. Right-Click on the Rockstar Game Launcher icon on your desktop 

  3. Select Properties 

  4. Select the Compatibility Tab 

  5. Uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  6. Select Apply 

  7. Select OK 

  8. Relaunch the Rockstar Games Launcher 

  9. Relaunch the game 

Steam Launcher 

  1. Close the Steam Launcher 

  2. Right-Click on the Steam Launcher icon on your desktop 

  3. Select Properties 

  4. Select the Compatibility Tab 

  5. Uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  6. Select Apply 

  7. Select OK 

  8. Relaunch the Steam Launcher 

  9. Relaunch the game 

Epic Games Launcher 

  1. Close the Epic Games Launcher 

  2. Right-Click on the Epic Games Launcher icon on your desktop 

  3. Select Properties 

  4. Select the Compatibility Tab 

  5. Uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  6. Select Apply 

  7. Select OK 

  8. Relaunch the Epic Games Launcher 

  9. Relaunch the game 

Checking the compatibility of the game you are trying to play

Rockstar Games Launcher 

  1. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher 

  2. Click on Settings 

  3. Under My installed games, click the game you wish to check 

  4. Under View installation folder, click Open 

  5. Right-click the .exe file of the game you wish to check (ex: GTAV.exe) 

    • Depending on the game, sometimes the .exe file will be in the Binaries\Win64 folder 

  6. Under the Compatibility Tab, uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  7. Select Apply 

  8. Select OK 

  9. Relaunch the game 

Steam Launcher 

  1. Open the Steam Launcher 

  2. Click on the Library tab 

  3. Right-click on the game you wish to check 

  4. Hover over Manage, then click Browse local files 

  5. Right-click the .exe file of the game you wish to check (ex: GTAV.exe) 

  6. Under the Compatibility Tab, uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  7. Select Apply 

  8. Select OK 

  9. Relaunch the game 

Epic Games Launcher 

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher 

  2. Click on the Library tab 

  3. Click the three dots under the game card 

  4. Click Manage 

  5. In the Installation tab, click the folder icon 

  6. Right-click the .exe file of the game you wish to check (ex: GTAV.exe) 

  7. Under the Compatibility Tab, uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” 

  8. Select Apply 

  9. Select OK 

  10. Relaunch the game
