Graphics Performance Tuning in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC

Last Updated: April 30, 2024

Question: How can I be sure that the in-game graphics are optimal for my system configuration?

Answer: For quickest optimization, the game’s “quality” slider will analyze your PC’s performance capabilities and intuitively adjust a range of the background parameters according to your selected resolution and your preference for higher performance vs higher quality graphics. Experiment with the slider to find our preferred settings.

For finer detail, experiment with the advanced settings until you find the combination that is right for you, and run the Graphics Benchmark under Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test until to confirm your desired balance of frames per second and quality.

For more detailed customization, please attempt to adjust these settings first:

  • Multisampling Anti-Aliasing (MSAA)

  • Reflection Quality

  • Water Quality

  • Volumetric Quality

  • Near Volumetric Resolution

We then suggest adjusting the following:

  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing

  • Texture Quality

  • Lighting Quality

  • Shadow Quality

  • Screen Space Ambient Occlusion

  • Anisotropic Filtering

  • Far Shadow Quality

  • Tessellation Quality

  • Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing (FXAA)

  • Volumetric Lighting Quality

  • Triple Buffering

  • Global Illumination Quality

  • Particle Quality

  • Mirror Quality

  • Far Volumetric Resolution

Note: Depending on system configuration, different settings will have different impacts on game performance.
