BattlEye blocking bcrypt.dll when launching Grand Theft Auto V
Last Updated: October 15, 2024
Question: Whenever I attempt to launch Grand Theft Auto V, I receive the following error. How do I play GTAV?
[INFO] Blocked loading of file: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\bcrypt.dll.
Answer: BattlEye will prevent the usage of certain Windows files if they are corrupt or being used to load mods. To have BattlEye disregard this file, please follow the steps below:
Ensure you are playing an unmodified version of Grand Theft Auto V
If any mod has made a change to the bcrypt.dll file, it will be flagged by BattlEye and not allow the game to launch. Please ensure you have no mods installed before attempting to launch the game.
NOTE: Do not delete the bcrypt.dll file. It is essential for Windows to function properly.
Update Windows
Open the Start menu
Select the Settings gear icon
Select Update & Security
Select Check for updates
If any updates are available for your system, allow Windows to download and install them, and then reboot your machine and attempt to open Grand Theft Auto V again.

Perform a Windows File System scan
If updating Windows did not work or you have no updates available, performing a Windows File System scan will help Windows detect and fix potentially corrupted files.
Open the Start menu
Type in 'command prompt'
Under Command Prompt, select Run as administrator
Once Command Prompt opens, type 'sfc /scannow' and then press Enter
Let the scan run, detect, and fix any corrupted files
