Grand Theft Auto Online Activation required error

Last Updated: July 26, 2024

Question: What can I do about the following error code when trying to launch GTA Online?

  • Activation requires an internet connection, and you are currently in offline mode. Your offline activation data could not be loaded. Please verify your internet connection and restart Grand Theft Auto V.

Answer: This error can occur if you are not connected to the internet during activation or if there is a conflict between the Rockstar Games Launcher and your antivirus or firewall.

Add the Rockstar Games Launcher as an exception to your antivirus software

  1. Open the Windows start menu and select the Settings gear

  2. Select Update & Security

  3. Select Windows Security

  4. Select Virus & threat protection

  5. Select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions

  6. Select Add an exclusion, and then select the folder where the Rockstar Games Launcher is installed

  7. Default location: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher

If you are not using Windows Defender, refer to your program documentation on how you can add programs or folders as an exception for your antivirus and/or firewall.
