Freezing on Neon Sign / Title Screen in L.A. Noire for PC on Steam

Last Updated: May 20, 2024

Question: When I start L.A. Noire on Steam the game stops loading on the screen with the L.A. Noire neon sign. What can I do?

Answer: The most likely cause of this issue is that either Steam or L.A. Noire are not running with administrator permissions. The issue can also be caused if software is preventing the game files from updating. The following steps should help to resolve this issue:

Verify Steam is running as an Administrator

  • Quit the game and completely close Steam

  • Makes sure to close the Steam launcher in the Windows Tray

  • Right-Click on the Steam icon or shortcut you use to launch Steam

  • Select Run As Administrator

Temporarily Disable any Antivirus / AntiMalware

  • This only needs to be done once to make certain that the game and supporting files are up to date. Consult your software manufacturer for instructions.

Verify Integrity of Game Files Steam

  • Right-Click on L.A. Noire

  • Select Properties

  • Under the Local Files Tab select Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Once complete, click Close

Launch L.A. Noire

  • The game should load, and you should be prompted to sign in to your Rockstar Games account
