Xbox 360 - Troubleshooting disc read problems and graphics problems

Last Updated: June 29, 2023

Some general steps to change the settings within the Xbox dashboard for troubleshooting purposes.

  1. Make sure all of your appropriate connections are functioning.

  2. Make sure your game disc is free of dust and/or scratches.  To clean the disc:

    • Hold the disc by the edges without touching the surface with your fingers.

    • Clean the disc with a soft cloth, lightly wiping from the center outwards.

    • Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disc.

    • Try to play the game again.

  3. Remove any memory units from your Xbox controller.

  4. Make sure your screen display is set to "Normal", not "Letterbox" or "Widescreen". Additionally, change the sound output in the Xbox settings to "Mono." You can change these settings within the Xbox Main Menu's "Settings" Menu (under "Video" and "Audio," respectively).

  5. Make sure the Time Setting on your Xbox is set to the correct date. Press the "A" button to save your changes, then the "B" button to return to the settings menu once you have set the date.

  6. Place the game disc in your disc drive, then launch the game.
