Unable to launch GTAV.exe due to lack of privileges on the Game Library directory error

Question: What can I do about the following error code when trying to launch Grand Theft Auto V on PC?  

  • Unable to launch GTAV.exe due to lack of privileges on the Game Library directory. Please remove any compatibility mode settings or try running as administrator. If you continue to have problems playing the game, please contact Rockstar Games Customer Service at https://support.rockstargames.com.  

Answer: This error usually occurs when either Grand Theft Auto V or the Rockstar Games Launcher are not running with administrator privileges on your PC. You can ensure that both the executable file and Rockstar Games Launcher are running under administrator privileges by doing the following:  

Run the Rockstar Games Launcher as administrator  

  1. Close Grand Theft Auto V and the Rockstar Games Launcher  

  2. Right-click the Rockstar Games Launcher shortcut on your desktop and select Properties  

  3. Select Compatibility  

  4. Select Change settings for all users  

  5. Select Run this program as an administrator   

  6. Select OK  

Run Grand Theft Auto V as administrator  

  1. Launch the Rockstar Games Launcher  

  2. Select Settings  

  3. Select Grand Theft Auto V under My Installed Games   

  4. Select Open on View installation folder  

  5. Locate and right-click Grand Theft Auto V, then select Properties  

  6. Select Compatibility  

  7. Select Change settings for all users  

  8. Enable Run this program as an administrator  

  9. Select OK  

  10. Launch Grand Theft Auto V to see if the issue is resolved
