Failed to initialize BattlEye Service: Driver Load Error (1072)

Answer: This error occurs when something on your system is preventing the installation or startup of BattlEye.

Try the following steps to fix the problem:

Add BattlEye to your antivirus' exceptions

  1. Locate where BattlEye is installed:

    • Rockstar Games Launcher default: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V\BattlEye

    • Steam default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\BattlEye

    • Epic Games Launcher default: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV\BattlEye

  2. Copy the path to your BattlEye folder from your respective launcher

  3. Add it to your antivirus program’s exclusions

Delete the BE Service directory

  1. Delete the BE Service directory folder, usually located at the following address:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye

  2. Relaunch your game

Run BattlEye Launcher as administrator

  1. Locate the BattleEye Launcher executable in your program files (usually the executable file has _BE at the end: ex. GTA5_BE or GTA5_Enhanced_BE)

  2. Right-click on the BattleEye Launcher executable

  3. Choose Properties

  4. Go to the Compatibility tab

  5. Check the Run this program as an administrator option

  6. Select OK to apply your changes

Graphics modification software

BattlEye is known to not work properly with the following graphics modification software:

  • ReShade

  • Special_K

While BattlEye will still allow you to launch GTA Online, these mods will be disabled during gameplay.
