Xbox network version of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas won’t start on Xbox 360
Last Updated: August 11, 2023
Question: What can I do about the following error when trying to start the Xbox network version of GTA San Andreas?
- Disc read error
Answer: This error occurs whenever GTA San Andreas installs incorrectly on your Xbox 360 from the Xbox network.
To resolve this error, try the following methods:
Redownload the game to a different part of the hard drive
- Delete your San Andreas download from the HDD
- Clear the hard drive cache
- Download several other large demos to fill up some space on the HDD and then re-download San Andreas
This fix can allow you to write the game to non-corrupt, non-fragmented portions of the hard drive if the downloaded game is giving disc read errors that suggest that data cannot be streamed quickly enough.
Save the game in a different place
- From Xbox Home, go to Settings
- Select System
- Select Storage
- Select the storage device that contains GTA San Andreas: - Hard Drive: Your console’s hard drive.
- Cloud Saved Games: Storage space on our Xbox Live servers.
- USB Storage Device: A USB storage device, such as a USB flash drive plugged into your console.
- Memory Unit: An external memory unit plugged into your Xbox 360 console.

- Select Games and Apps - It's okay to copy and move saved games from one Xbox 360 console to another. You don't have to repurchase the game or reload it onto your second console.

- Locate and select GTA San Andreas
- Select Move
- Select the storage device you want to move GTA San Andreas to
- Start GTA San Andreas
This will help you see if the game is unreadable from a particular hard drive.
