Aureal Vortex Sound card problems in Max Payne

Question: Max Payne is unable to start or crashes when on a system with an Aureal Vortix sound card.  How can I fix this?

Answer: Reduce the hardware acceleration for the soundcard.

Enter the Control Panel, Double click on Sounds and audio devices then click on the Advance button that appears below playback. Next to the playback make sure the device listed as "Game compatible device",, then click on advanced and check to see if you have the speakers set to desktop speakers.

Click on performance and lower the acceleration down to Basic
