Question: What can I do about the following error when trying to launch GTA Online?

  • Files required to play GTA Online could not be downloaded from the Rockstar Games Service. Please return to Grand Theft Auto V and try again later.

Answer: This error occurs whenever there is a communication issue between Rockstar Games Services and your connection’s IP address.

To resolve this error, try the following methods:

Check your network connection and Rockstar Games Service availability

Reset your network router

You can reset your router by unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for about 10 minutes. Restart the game client and check to see if your issue is resolved.

Clear your cache

  1. Turn off your console

  2. Unplug your console from its power source

  3. Wait two minutes

  4. Plug the power cable back into its power source

  5. Turn your console back on

Change your Domain Name Servers (DNS)

  1. Open the Home Screen

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Network

  4. Under Settings, select Set Up Internet Connection

  5. Highlight your Wi-Fi or LAN (depending on what you use to connect)

  6. Press Options

  7. Select Advanced Settings

  8. Under DNS Settings, select Manual

  9. Enter the following DNS addresses in their respective fields:

    • Primary DNS = 8.8.8.8

    • Secondary DNS = 8.8.4.4

  10. Click OK
