Issues downloading a Game on an Android Device

Last Updated: April 13, 2024

Question: I cannot download my game on my mobile device without it canceling or stopping. How do I fix this?Answer: Common installation problems can be resolved by deleting the downloaded App from your device, ensuring that you have sufficient space to both download and install the App, and downloading the App again on a stable network connection.

Verify your network connection

Please verify that you are connected to the Android Marketplace via a Wi-Fi connection.

Most carriers will throttle large downloads over their data networks.  It’s generally a good idea to make sure you are connected via Wi-Fi and not simply your data network.

Uninstall an App

Open the Google Play app on your Android phone or tablet

Tap on the menu button (the three lines that show up in the upper left corner).

Tap on "My apps & games."

Select Installed from the menu

Tap any Installed App and then selecting Uninstall

This will remove it from your device, but keep it in your Google Play Library.

Ensure the device has sufficient available memory

It’s important to note that installation of an app may require slightly more space than the final install size.  Several issues with launching the game or audio problems are a result of the device not having sufficient available space to finish (or in some cases start) the installation on your device's Internal Memory.

For example, installing a 2GB app usually starts by downloading a smaller 8MB file which then downloads the app files.  Although the final install size is 2GB, the device would need approximately 3GB of free space to ensure the game is properly installed.

Remove all game-related files from your device

In addition, we recommend that you cancel any in-progress downloads, delete everything related to the game from your device, and then start the process again.

Tap Settings in your Apps Menu

Tap Apps & notifications

Tap App info

Tap the App you want to stop

Select Force Stop and then 'Uninstall' on the app.

Reinstall the App

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.

Tap Menu Button and then My Apps and games and then Library.

Tap the app you want to reinstall

Tap reinstall

Taping on an uninstalled app leads you to its Google Play page, from where you can reinstall it.
