Last Updated: September 20, 2024
What is BattlEye in Grand Theft Auto Online?
BattlEye is kernel anti-cheat software that protects online Rockstar Games players from cheaters. As part of our ongoing efforts to protect our community, we have begun monitoring and prohibiting suspicious activity on PC via BattlEye.
Why is BattlEye installed on my machine?
BattlEye is used to detect and prohibit attempts to use cheating software accessing GTA Online servers, attempts to manipulate game protected code, and the sabotage of other players’ experience.
When does BattlEye need to be running?
BattlEye only needs to be active during online play sessions, such as when playing GTA Online. Depending on your platform (Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic, Steam), you can change the setting or launch option to disable BattlEye for Story Mode.
Does BattlEye need to run when playing on a Community RP Server?
Official Rockstar Community (RP) Servers will not require BattlEye to play. Community Server launchers will disable BattlEye as part of their launch processes.
Is BattlEye compatible with Steam Deck?
Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. You will be able to play GTAV Story Mode but unable to play GTA Online.
Note: GTAV and GTA Online are not officially supported on Steam Deck and all technical support questions should be directed to Valve’s Steam Deck support content and community.
Where can I find help with troubleshooting a problem with BattlEye?
Support for troubleshooting with many common errors are available on the BattlEye support FAQ at:
Is BattlEye compatible with any software that mods graphics?
Software like non-cheat overlays and visual enhancement tools (e.g., ReShade, Special_K, etc.) may result in technical issues. To troubleshoot, please try removing the graphics mod from your game’s installation files. If the issue persists, you can find more information on the BattlEye support FAQ linked below.
Is BattlEye compatible with my antivirus software?
While BattlEye is compatible with most antivirus software, you may run into issues if your antivirus does not recognize BattlEye. To avoid any potential problems, make sure to add BattlEye to your antivirus’ exception list.
You can find more information about this on the BattlEye support FAQ linked below.
Note: Certain antivirus programs, such as AVG and Trend Micro, may prevent launch of the game or work incorrectly even if BattlEye is added to the program’s exception list. To launch the game, you can temporarily disable these antivirus programs or use another antivirus program.
