Last Updated: May 1, 2024
Question: I purchased a Rockstar Games title through the Rockstar Games Launcher, but when I open the launcher, it says “Play On Steam” with no option to install the game to the Rockstar Games Library. What can I do to resolve this?
Answer: This problem occurs when you have existing Rockstar Games files on your PC that were previously installed from Steam.
To install the game through the Rockstar Games Launcher without uninstalling or deleting the existing game files from Steam, follow these steps:
Close Steam
Find the existing game folder in your Steam installation directory:
Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\[Rockstar Games title]
Temporarily rename the [Rockstar Games title] folder to a name of your choice (ex. XYZ)
Note: You will need change this back at the end of the process
Restart the Rockstar Games Launcher. The game you purchased through the Rockstar Games Launcher should now be available to install
Choose the game from My Library
Click Install Now
After the game has fully installed in the Rockstar Games Launcher, change the game folder in the Steam directory back to its original name:
Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\[Rockstar Games title]
