Problems unlocking the "Legend of the West" or "Legendary" achievement / trophy in Red Dead Redemption

I reached level 50 and passed into legend, but achievement / trophy for "Legend of the West" / "Legendary" does not unlock. What can I do?

The "Legend of the West" (360) or "Legendary" (PS3) achievement and trophy are part of the Legends and Killers DLC pack.  Players without the DLC, however, will still be able to see this achievement because the new trophies are added in free Title Updates. 

Although it is possible to pass into legend without the DLC, the achievement will only unlock for DLC-owners.
