Saving towns in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
Last Updated: July 12, 2023
Question: How can I save a town? I saved a town and then, later in the game, it showed on the map that it was under attack. A message said that a town is lost forever, but then I was able to re-save it later. How does all of this work?
Answer: Check the world map often to view the status of towns and other locations of interest.
When a town appears as a Question Mark it is undiscovered and the status is unknown.
When a town's status is "under attack", you have a limited amount of time to assist the survivors and/or cleanse the city by eliminating a set number of zombies.
Successfully completing survivor tasks and/or destroying a set quantity of undead in a given town will render it "safe." When a town is safe, you have access to its safehouse for saving and quick-traveling between discovered towns.
Once a town is overrun by the undead and is assigned a status of "Lost", the player can still use the town temporarily to save and fast-travel by clearing out the zombies that appear as red blips on the radar. During that time, the town is assigned a temporary status of "saved". However, a lost town that has been re-saved is put on a special schedule to come under attack in 24 game-hours and the player loses some of the ammunition bonuses, reflecting the fact that the town is truly "Lost".
