Question: When I try to launch GTA IV the Play button is grayed out and it says that Social Club is not available. Sometimes it says that the Social Club login failed but I know I am using correct information because I can access the website. Help!
Answer: We have received some reports about Social Club being unavailable or valid logins resulting in an "invalid user name/password" error when trying to play GTA IV on PC, and we are looking into this now. Except during maintenance periods or other instances of Social Club downtime, "Social Club Unavailable" messages in the GTA IV launcher are most often caused by firewalls, connectivity issues, security or VPN settings, or the use of mods/cracks.
If Social Club is available for you but the launcher says that you are using an invalid user name or password, please test on the Social Club website to verify that your information is correct. If you can log in to the website but not the GTA IV launcher, please follow the steps below.
We recommend verifying that you have updated Games for Windows Live to the latest version. For step-by-step directions, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977845
Also make sure that you have downloaded the latest patch for GTA IV or EFLC:
GTA IV Patch
Finally, make sure that you are launching GTA IV using the Launch GTA IV.exe file and NOT the RGSC (Rockstar Games Social Club) standalone application and NOT any shortcut that may have been created prior to patching the game.
The patch mentioned above removes the need for RGSC, and if you continue to launch the game using RGSC (or if you do not have the patch and the GTA IV launcher opens RGSC for you) it is possible that your user name and password may not be recognized. There is still a Social Club login screen after installing Patch 7 but it is part of the main GTA IV launcher rather than a separate application.
OLD RGSC STANDALONE APPLICATION LOGIN -- DO NOT USE
NEW SOCIAL CLUB LOGIN SCREEN USING "LAUNCHGTAIV.EXE" AFTER PATCH 7 FOR GTA IV OR "LAUNCHEFLC.EXE" FOR EFLC
If you are still receiving an Invalid Username/Password error and you are able to log in to the regular Social Club website without any problems, try validating your account if you didn't do it when you first signed up. The following article will walk you through the steps for having a validation email re-sent so that you can click the link and confirm that you are the owner of the Social club account.

Update for 7/24/13: The issue with Social Club login failures today should now be resolved. However, some players may be experiencing problems still with getting in, or once in the game, GTA IV may say they are not signed in when trying to access Multiplayer. We are continuing to look into this and will provide an update as soon as there is news.
