Question: My Areas Discovered stats and/or bounty locations are incorrect for the different regions of the game; some of them show more locations discovered than there are possible, while I cannot get some locations to unlock even after visiting them multiple times and/or buying the maps.

Answer: We are aware of reports that some players were unable to attain 100% game completion on Title Update 1.04 because of incorrect Areas Discovered stats.  This issue may have also included bounty locations tracking to the wrong regions, preventing 100% completion of the game.

Here are some possible workarounds based on player data:

  • If you are 7/8 in Nuevo Paraiso and Social Club says you are missing Plata Grande, try completing a Silent Stead bounty and a Rio Del Lobo bounty in New Austin.
  • If you are missing a location in Nuevo Paraiso, try discovering Warthington Ranch and Cueva Seco in New Austin.
  • If you are missing a bounty in Nuevo Paraiso, try doing a bounty at Repentance Rock.
  • If you are missing the Primera Quebrada bounty in Nuevo Paraiso, try doing Fort Mercer in New Austin.
  • If you are missing Areas Discovered in West Elizabeth even after going to all West Elizabeth locations and buying all West Elizabeth maps, try buying a map in Hennigan's Stead (New Austin), Chuparosa (Perdido map), and also Armadillo (Gaptooth Ridge map and Cholla Springs).

Here are the issues that occurred, based on player data:

  • Issue #1: Silent Stead Bounty and Rio Del Lobo Bounty in New Austin tracks into the Nuevo Paraiso category.
  • Issue #2: When players are 7/8 in Nuevo Paraiso because of Issue #1, Social Club says that Plata Grande is missing.
  • Issue #3: Warthington Ranch and Cueva Seco in New Austin may be tracking incorrectly into Nuevo Paraiso.
  • Issue #4: Tanner's Span may be recorded as Tall Trees, as indicated on the top of the screen when the player enters the area.
  • Issue #5: West Elizabeth Areas Discovered never reaches 17/17 despite the player buying all the maps and travelling on foot to all the locations. SC often reports Wreck of the Serendipity missing.
  • Issue #6: Tanner's Span may not be tracking correctly <OR> Social Club may be incorrectly showing that Tanner's Span is missing when the player does already have it.
  • Issue #7: When Social Club says that the player is missing Primera Quebrada in Nuevo Paraiso, the player actually needs to do Fort Mercer in New Austin.
  • Issue #8: A map bought in Hennigan's Stead (New Austin) counts toward West Elizabeth areas discovered.
  • Issue #9: Two maps from Armadillo (New Austin) may count towards West Elizabeth Areas Discovered - Gaptooth Ridge map and Cholla Springs map.

Fix Update -- 12/2/10 -- The fix for the Areas Discovered and Bounty Locations bug is now live on both PS3 and 360.  The fix is applied in the background, so you will not need to download anything nor will you be prompted.  Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet and signed in to PSN or Xbox Live when launching the game.  Please note that you need to load/save your Single Player file in order to see your stats change, and it may take up to 30 minutes for the changes to appear on Social Club.
